Weft Hair Extensions: Are They the Right Choice for You?

    MichaelBy MichaelDecember 14, 2021No Comments4 Mins Read

There are multiple styling and attachment options when it comes to extensions. But, hair extensions aren’t for everyone, since sometimes, if the hair is too fine or thin, then hair extensions might be too heavy or damaging. That being said, there’s no reason you can’t look into it. So, here is a quick guide to see if your perfect hair extensions are available:

    What Are Weft Hair Extensions?

In the simplest sense, weft hair extensions are a collection of hair strands sewn into a thin cloth. These strips come ready to use for stylists to use in your hair. And while the attachment style depends on your hair type, wefts are usually more convenient and easy to use.

What Are the Different Attachment Methods?

Depending on hair type, you’ll need to choose the attachment method for your hair extensions. But, you’ll need to know the different types of extensions before you get to that point.

    Tape-In Hair Extensions

Of the different kinds, tape-in hair extensions are bound to hurt and damage your hair the least. They’re a semi-permanent extension that is glued directly to your natural hair, and a thin layer of tape is used to keep it stuck to your hair. Besides, they usually last anywhere between 6 to 8 weeks when taken care of properly.

    Clip-In Hair Extensions

If you’re not keen on glue or heat for your hair, then clips are a great option. And the good-quality ones can’t even be seen when attached right. Besides, they just provide your hair with the extra volume and length they offer.

Meanwhile, it is recommended that you don’t keep these extensions in for long periods or even overnight, as they can damage your hair and cause breakage directly at the root. But if kept correctly, these extensions can last up to a year!

    Bond Hair Extensions

If you want something more permanent and unlikely to show, then bonded hair is for you. With bonding, the hair extensions are attached to your hair using glue and heat. Your stylist will use a special resin and a heating tool to attach the extensions to your natural hair directly.

But, even bonded hair doesn’t last forever, although, when taken care of properly, they last up to 6 months.

    Micro-Link Hair Extensions

Micro-link options don’t require heat, glue, or clips, as the extensions and your natural hair are pulled through a small bead and sealed using a tool like pliers. Meanwhile, the biggest issue with this type of extension is that it only lasts 3 to 4 months.

    Are Extensions Right for You?

Hair extensions are not for everyone. But, if you’re dead set on getting the volume and length that extensions give, then you can choose a type that won’t rip your natural hair out of its roots.

    • Bonded Hair: It is best for medium to thick hair. And, if your hair isn’t prone to breakage, then bonded hair extensions are great.
    • Tape-Ins: If you have fine, thin hair, then tape-ins are the best option. The tape is virtually undetectable despite the thinner strands.
    • Weave/Sew-In: If you have coarser, curlier, or thicker hair, then sew-in is a brilliant option. But they are heavy and can easily damage fine hair.
    • Micro-Link: Best for medium to thick hair. And with fine and thin hair, you’ll be able to see the beads.
    • Clip-In: If you have medium-density hair, a clip-on is an easy way to change up your look whenever you’d like.

Hair extensions don’t have to be a complicated mess. And, while the sheer number of options can be overwhelming, a simple method to choose is to look at your hair type and what extensions do the least amount of damage. So, with this hack, you’re all ready to go and conquer the world of hair extensions!
