Being confined indoors for the past two years, I wanted a much-needed break from my hectic work from home life in Jaipur. So, when the lockdown restrictions eased a bit, I planned a trip to Mount Abu with my office friends. To make the most of our journey, we opted for a road trip and booked an economical taxi service in Jaipur and began our trip.
Upon reaching, we were stunned by the beauty of this hill station. Also, let me tell you that Mount Abu, surrounded by the famous Aravalli Range, is home to beautiful parks, lush forests and serene lakes that adds to its scenic vistas.
Mount Abu also has numerous architectural marvels and spiritual sites. After looking at such panoramic views, we were excited to explore the city. Here are some of the top places we visited during our Mount Abu trip.
Nakki Lake
Nakki Lake was the first location we explored on our Mount Abu trip. Popularly known as India’s first artificial lake, it is a magnificent place for nature lovers like me and for romantic couples, given its lush greenery and stunning environment. At Nakki Lake, we enjoyed a boat ride on the famous lake and clicked some pictures for our Instagram feed.
Dilwara Jain Temples
We then stopped at the famous Dilwara Jain Temple. Upon reaching this place, we were awestruck by the stunning architecture. After speaking to a few locals here, we got to know that this temple was constructed between the 11th and the 13th centuries.
It highlighted unparalleled craftsmanship with elaborate carvings on luminous white marble stones, and the inside roofs, walls and pillars were adorned with breathtaking structures and patterns, giving an unmatched spiritual feeling.
The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary
After having delicious Rajasthani lunch, we headed straight to the Mount Abu wildlife sanctuary. Even though it was late afternoon, the place was crowded with visitors. This wildlife sanctuary is the most visited place in Mount Abu, given its rich flora and fauna.
Spread across an area of 288 square km, the wildlife sanctuary is home to a wide range of exotic and rare animals, including the striped hyena, Indian leopard, pangolin, Indian fox, and wild boar, to name a few.
Peace Park
Known for its beautiful environment and tranquillity, Peace Park is another fascinating place for peaceful recreation and meditation. This park is surrounded by the stunning Aravalli Hills, and is a part of Brahma Kumari’s facility in Mount Abu.
It has a playground with a beautiful rock garden with citruses, succulents, orchids, roses, ornamental shrubs, creepers, climbers, and other flora. Here, we also saw some mesmerising stone caves and huts used for meditation in the old days.
Mount Abu Bazaar
To get a local street shopping experience and shop for some souvenirs for our family members, we went to the famous Mount Abu Bazaar late in the evening. From traditional Rajasthani garments and Kashmiri textiles to Ayurvedic products and handicrafts, we found an eclectic selection of organic and ethnic products here.
While Khadi Bhandar is well-known for its Rajasthani garments and keepsakes, Piccadilly Plaza boasts some eye-catching silver and bronze antiques and Rajasthani handicrafts. We also went to the local Bansilal Bhurmal and Bikki Lake Market to shop for some authentic Mount Abu handicrafts.
A trip to Mount Abu was a memorable experience for me, and I would recommend everyone to visit this hill station at least once in their lifetime. For a more enjoyable experience, you can book a personal taxi through a cab booking app and make your trip more comfortable.
