4 Tips for Buying a New Refrigerator

    MichaelBy MichaelJuly 8, 2022No Comments5 Mins Read

When it comes time to buy a new refrigerator, there are a few things you should keep in mind. A refrigerator is an important purchase, and you want to make sure that you get the most bang for your buck. This article will list some tips that I have found useful in my search for a new refrigerator. The purpose of this post is to provide updated information in a single location and is not intended as an endorsement of any products.

    1. Energy Star rating

The Energy Star rating, which is a generalized representation of energy efficiency, is a 1-to-100 scale from least to most efficient. A refrigerator with an Energy Star rating of 8 or higher is generally considered very efficient. Fridges with ratings of 9 and 10 are the most efficient ones on the market, but they still have to meet minimum energy standards.

Overall, you should look for the Energy Star logo when buying a new fridge. While there are many factors to consider while shopping for a fridge, such as size or the number of doors, it’s important to keep in mind how much energy it will use and whether it will be cost effective over time.

    2. Size and capacity

Before you head out to the appliance store, ask yourself what you’ll be using your new refrigerator for. It should be able to accommodate your needs before, during, and after the holidays. If you’re hosting a lot of large gatherings or you have family coming in from out of town, you might want to look at refrigerators with higher-than-average capacity. For those with limited space, consider a compact refrigerator that can do the same job as a larger unit.

A common mistake is buying an appliance that’s too big. While most built-in refrigerators are pretty compact, and can even fit under upper cabinets if needed, side-by-side models are usually much larger and are not equipped to fit flush against a wall. If space is what you’re lacking most, choose a refrigerator that fits within your available parameters. You can always put the unit on casters or slide it out from under your countertop when it’s time for a party or other gathering.

Larger refrigerators also come with two major drawbacks: cost and energy efficiency. Purchasing an appliance that has more than enough room often means paying more money for less quality (and it will take longer to cool down).

    3. Color and design

Color and design are as important to getting a new refrigerator as the things that go in it. Sometimes, a kitchen just needs an upgrade—even if it’s just the appliance you use most frequently. A new refrigerator can be the perfect way to give your kitchen a facelift, so long as you take a few key things into consideration when shopping for yours.

Consider the Appearance of Your Cabinets

Many refrigerators come in a variety of colors, but not all of them will match with your existing cabinetry . You should make sure that your cabinets aren’t already painted with a particular color, or that they are made out of wood or metal that doesn’t match any of your options. If you will eventually be repainting your cabinets, now is the time to decide on the color so you can get everything in line with your vision.

To help narrow down which color would be best for your home’s design aesthetic, consider these common colors:

-White gives off a clean and modern feel; it’s crisp and bright without being too flashy. It also pairs well with nearly any other color.

-Black is sleek and contemporary; it works especially well if you want a refrigerator with more character than those that come in white or stainless steel.

    4. Price and value

When you’re buying a refrigerator, the first thing to consider is how much you can afford to spend. A general rule of thumb is that the more you spend, the better the quality of the refrigerator you’ll get. This is especially important if you have a large family or tend to host parties often—you probably want a refrigerator that can keep up with your needs. However, it’s also important to consider value. The value of a refrigerator isn’t just measured in its price tag—it’s measured in what kind of features it has, how well it performs, and how long it will last. You may find that an expensive refrigerator with a lot of features might not be the best value for your money when comparing it to one that has fewer features but costs less.

The other thing to consider when looking at price is whether it’s worth going for a higher tier within your budget. For instance, if you’re looking at refrigerators that are all priced between $700-$900 dollars, is there enough of a difference between them for you to go for one that costs $800 over one that costs $700? Maybe, but it’s up to you to decide what’s best for your own situation and what kind of value you get out of each choice.
